For families, start with a suitable catamaran option and confirm each child’s age with the operator. RIB age limits differ between listings, and larger boats still require checking boarding, safety equipment and weather suitability.

Start with the youngest traveller

Futurismo recommends its catamaran for children under eight and other travellers seeking comfort. Its Zodiac restrictions differ. Picos describes its larger catamaran as family-friendly, with a covered cabin and toilets; its speedboat has a minimum age of six. Terra Azul’s standard Zodiac excludes children under four. Never use one operator’s policy to book another.

Family questionWhy it matters
Is this the catamaran option? The same product may also sell a RIB
Are all children accepted on this date?Weather can affect participation
Are suitable life jackets available?Confirm sizes and the crew’s requirements
Is there a toilet or sheltered seating?Facilities vary by actual vessel
How early must we check in?The departure time is not the arrival time

Set expectations before boarding

Explain that the crew searches for wild animals. Nobody can promise a jumping whale, a particular species or a close encounter. Dolphins, seabirds and the process of spotting wildlife can be interesting parts of the outing. A child who expects an aquarium-style show may find waiting at sea difficult; talk through that difference before buying tickets.

Keep the day simple

A standard half-day trip leaves more flexibility than a full-day combination. Allow time for breakfast, toilets, finding the correct office and putting on equipment. Pack layers, sun protection and water in a manageable bag. Ask about food rules and do not assume snacks are included. For comfort concerns, use the boat comparison and seek professional advice about any medication.

Full-day and swimming activities need separate checks

The Picos whale-and-islet full day excludes children under six and lists additional health restrictions. A child accepted on a standard catamaran may therefore be ineligible for that itinerary. Dolphin swimming requires an entirely different assessment of swimming ability and confidence in open water. Do not buy a swim simply because the child enjoyed dolphins from a boat.

Plan a flexible date

Book early enough in your island stay to have another opportunity if the operator cancels for weather. Avoid building the whole family itinerary around a promised species. The seasonal guide helps you choose expectations, while the prices guide explains why adult starting prices are not family quotes.
