Choose the layout you can tolerate
The most useful first comparison is catamaran versus Zodiac. Picos lists a covered cabin, open upper deck and toilets on its catamaran; OceanEye lists a catamaran bathroom. Futurismo recommends its catamaran for travellers seeking more comfort. These facilities help you assess the experience, but they are not medical guarantees.
Ask practical questions before paying
| Question for the operator | Why ask it? |
|---|
| Which vessel is this exact option? | A shared listing may sell a catamaran and RIB |
| What are conditions expected to be like? | Offshore conditions can differ from the harbour view |
| Where can passengers sit? | Layout and access vary by vessel |
| Can the trip change if weather worsens? | Know the operational and cancellation process |
| Does this activity list a restriction relevant to me? | Some combinations explicitly exclude people prone to seasickness |
The Picos whale-and-islet full day lists people prone to seasickness among those it is not suitable for. Do not treat a longer, more expensive day as a solution to motion concerns.
Use simple comfort measures
The NHS advises looking ahead at a fixed point such as the horizon, getting fresh air where safe, and avoiding reading or screens during motion. It also suggests avoiding heavy meals, spicy food and alcohol around travel. Follow the crew’s seating and movement instructions; do not move to an unsafe part of the vessel for a better view.
Medication is a personal decision
A pharmacist can advise on suitable motion-sickness treatments and when to take them. Some cause drowsiness or are unsuitable for certain people. For children, pregnancy, existing health conditions or other medicines, get individual professional advice rather than copying a traveller’s review. This page does not prescribe a product or dose.
Leave yourself an alternative
Choose a date early in the holiday and keep other plans flexible. If you are unsure whether you can manage several hours at sea, discuss that honestly with the operator before booking. A boat-only trip may be a better fit than adding open-water swimming or a full day offshore, but the final choice depends on your needs and the operator’s restrictions.
